Spicy Italian Sausage Roll

Ingredients:

1 package Premio Hot Italian Sausage, removed from the casing
1/2 Red bell pepper, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1/4 cup chopped sweet onion
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 package of refridgerator pizza crust
1/2 cup Provolone cheese
1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese
4 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)

  • Always cook chicken sausage to a minimum internal temperature of 165° F using a meat thermometer.

How to make Spicy Italian Sausage Roll:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). In a medium skillet, saute the onion in olive oil until carmelized (golden color). Add chopped bell pepper and saute until pepper is soft. Place vegtables into a separate bowl to cool.

2. Brown Premio Hot Italian Sausage until golden brown. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon salt and mix (make sure to break up the chunks of sausage with a fork or chop with a knife or food processor after meat is cooked).

3. Add sausage to pepper/onion mixture in a large bowl; mix cream cheese, sausage, peppers, onions and provolone/mozzarella cheeses.

4. Roll out pizza crust onto counter, spread with cheese-meat mixture, making sure to go all the way to the edge. Roll dough back up into a log shape and bake until golden on the top, approximately 25 minutes.

5. Once completely cooked, remove from oven and allow to cool before slicing (to prevent cheese from oozing out).
