Spicy Sausage Stuffed Shells

Ingredients:

1 pound Premio Hot Italian Sausage
1 package large pasta shells (about 12)
12 ounces whole milk ricotta cheese
1/3 cup fresh chopped parsley
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 egg
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Always cook pork sausage to a minimum internal temperature of 160° F using a meat thermometer.
  • Always cook chicken sausage to a minimum internal temperature of 165° F using a meat thermometer.

How to make Spicy Sausage Stuffed Shells:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Cook pasta shells according to directions on box. Drain and set aside.

2. Remove Premio Sausage from casing and brown, breaking up into small pieces as it cooks.

3. In a bowl, combine egg, ricotta and 1/3 cup parsley.

4. In a separate bowl, combine tomatoes, oregano, garlic powder, sugar and salt & pepper, to taste.

5. Once sausage has browned, drain and add to ricotta mixture.

6. In a large baking pan, add a layer of tomato mixture to evenly coat the bottom. Stuff pasta shells with sausage and ricotta filling and place into pan. Top with another layer of tomato sauce mix, and shredded mozzarella cheese.

7. Bake at 350 degrees (F) for 35 minutes, or until cheese melts and bubbles. Serve with remaining tomato sauce on the side, as desired.
